August - November arty stuff

Since returning to my CMYK watercolour method back in August, I’ve managed to create a few more paintings in the same style which I’m still feeling good about… I think this method really might be ‘my style’. And yes, I do seem to only wear checked shirts.

I was getting more expressive with the marks here… this might be my favourite so far… with some additional pastels on top. A3.

The most recent one…trying to give the painting some form of narrative. A3.

I wanted to test the method on a subject with dark skin, this is Martini. The watercolour is CMY, with the Black being added as a charcoal layer which was removed and refined in areas. The result was OK… but it lacks some of the looseness that I’ve managed to get in other paintings… so I need to try some more.

I also fired up the iPad, updated Procreate and played with some of the new ‘inky’ brushes on a couple of football-related doodles.

It’s feeling good to create art. It’s really been the only personal work I’ve been doing since switching to a new job earlier this year, and I’m enjoying making stuff without relying on sitting on a computer.

The plan is to do some bigger, A2 pieces that explore narrative more and take longer to work on while still keeping a sense of looseness… (typically the ones I’ve done so far are around 4-6 hours)… I’d love to explore full figure shiz.
